Smudged Margins
What is a smudged margin? In school, it was the edge of all the notebook pages stained with graphite from my left hand. In books and articles, it’s where I question and converse with writers. Smudged Margins are where process leaves its mark on product. They are a reminder that everything whole and complete begins from nothing, and that completed projects are meant to be critiqued and carried forward.
Welcome to my place of work, where you can take note of my projects and send me your questions.
Angeline Peterson is a copywriter, content producer, translator, and scholar. She was born in the Philippines and raised in Moscow, Idaho, located in the panhandle of northern Idaho in a region called the Palouse. Angeline received her bachelor of arts from the oldest liberal arts institution in Wisconsin, Beloit College, where she studied anthropology with a focus in museum studies and French. After teaching English in France and serving in AmeriCorps as a literacy tutor in Colorado, she returned to complete her master of arts in African Languages & Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Angeline is currently the social media coordinator for the African literary website, Brittle Paper, and adjunct French faculty at Palomar College.
From the Philippines to Idaho and California, Angeline’s geographical and cultural trajectory mirrors that of Carlos Buloson, an early 20th century Filipino activist and author of America is in the Heart. (Bulosan hopped trains, harvested food, built communities, and learned to read, write, and advocate for Filipino American laborers in three cities that I also call home: Moscow, Oxnard, and San Diego. Like him, I am deeply touched and influenced by my local landscape, wherever that happens to be. It is my dream to one day adapt his beloved book into a screenplay for film).
